THE Devon Air Ambulance landed in Duncombe Park in Kingsbridge last Friday, to assist an elderly lady who had slipped on ice.

She suffered a head injury and, after initial treatment at the scene, was taken to the fire station, before being flown to hospital.

Local resident Angus Hiddlestone, who witnessed the landing and took photographs, drew attention to how the field had previously been kept clear of play equipment by a citizen’s campaign, to enable the air ambulance to land if needed.

However, Martin Johnson, town clerk at Kingsbridge Town Council has no recollection of these plans for Duncombe Park, and explained that it’s always been intended as a green space for the town.

He did explain that local councils are looking for community helipads as permanent fixtures, and there are five sites earmarked for Kingsbridge, which in the future should be formalised.
