Police appealing for information after a Mercedes-Benz ended up in a field – following an apparent car-jacking – have now said the allegation has been withdrawn.
A black Mercedes-Benz estate, registration HH53HHH, crashed into a field between Kingsbridge and Modbury, near Harraton Cross, the turn off to Bigbury on the A379, in the early hours of last Friday.
The owner of the car had told police that he stopped in Poundwell Street, Modbury, and got out of the car. While outside of the vehicle, he claimed two men assaulted him, took his keys and then drove off in his car. A police spokesman said today: "The 'car-jacking' allegation in Modbury has been withdrawn."Please be reassured that Modbury is still a very safe place to live."The Merc was found abandoned in the field, off the A379 between the Old Toll House and Harraton Cross.If anybody has any information, they are asked to get in touch with the police via the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference CR/077653/18.
