A man who stole a collection of hand tools from a South Hams builder’s merchant has been ordered to pay £275 in fines and costs.

James Paul Hammett, of Fosse Road, Kingsbridge, admitted two charges of theft, when he appeared before magistrates in Newton Abbot yesterday, April 25.

The magistrates were told he stole the tools from Palladium Builders Merchants in Kingsbridge on February 27 and 28. Hammett told the court that the tools were subsequently recovered by the company.

He was fined a total of £160 and ordered to pay £85 court costs, plus a £30 victim surcharge.
