An annual beer festival has raised a record amount of money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

The Welly Beer Fest, which takes place in Kingsbridge every year, has raised £2,500 towards funding research into the causes and treatments of motor neurone disease.

The annual event, now in its ninth year, took place on Sunday, May 28 at the Creeks End in Kingsbridge.

Organisers branched out from their usual selection of Devon beers, offering this year one cider choice and six artisan gins, with gin tasting proving to be a popular addition to the menu.

The Blue Mondays, a local workshop band, provided a relaxed jazz accompaniment to the event.

The Welly Beer Fest managed to raise the impressive amount of money from beer and gin sales, raffles, and individual donations, including one individual’s collection tin raising £400.

A spokesman for the event said: “The organisers are very grateful to the Creeks End for their help and hospitality, and to our special sponsors for supplying or funding beer, gin, glasses, mixers, ice, fruit, and raffle prizes.

“A big thank you to the beer pourers, barrel shifters, gin mixers, ticket sellers and particularly the customers, who have helped to make it such a record year.”
