Devon County Council has just announced it will fund a temporary shuttle bus service between Kingsbridge and Torcross.
DCC has announced that it will fund the temporary service between Kingsbridge bus station and Torcross to replace the suspended Stagecoach bus route along the A379 at Slapton.
The Stagecoach service was halted after collapse of the sea wall between Slapton and Torcross last Friday forced closure of a section of the A379 along the sea front.
Alternative routes are difficult for the usual double-decker service, so Devon County Council has said it will fund a temporary shuttle bus service until the Stagecoach service can resume.
The Stagecoach 3A shuttle bus service will start tomorrow, Wednesday, February 17.
It will run seven return journeys a day between 7.35am and 5.35pm, from Kingsbridge bus station via West Charleton village hall; Frogmore bridge; Chillington Post Office; Stokenham Carehouse Cross; and Torcross.
Councillor Stuart Hughes, the County Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for highway management, said: ’It’s always frustrating when local residents and regular bus users lose an important transport link, such as through the recent stormy weather events.
’We’ve therefore taken the decision to fund a shuttle bus route to replace the temporarily suspended Stagecoach bus service while the road’s closed.’
Local County Councillor Julian Brazil welcomed the announcement, saying: ’I’m delighted that there will now be a bus service. There is bound to be some unavoidable inconvenience, but once the road is repaired we can be more confident in the long term.’
