MALBOROUGH Parish Council presented a cheque for £4,906 to Malborough with South Huish Primary School last week.

The cheque was the result of teamwork between the Parents, Teachers and Friends Association, Malborough Parish Council, South Huish Parish Council and district councillors Judy Pearce and Paul Coulson.

An application from the two parish councils to the Town and Parish fund was successful in achieving £2,256.50. This was further supported with two grants of £1,000 each from the locality budgets of Cllrs Pearce and Coulson.

The TAP fund was set up by Devon County Council and South Hams District Council who contribute £1 and 10p per elector respectively. Town and Parish Councils can then bid for grants from the fund. Last year the Kingsbridge area was over-subscribed so the grant they received was lowered, meaning the support they received from the district councillors was crucial to the successful outcome of the project.

Kathy Harrod, secretary of the PTFA said: ‘We fully appreciate how lucky we are to live in an area where our parish council and local councillors are so proactive and we would like to sincerely thank everyone involved for this donation.

‘Every single child at the school benefits from the improved play facilities and it was a joy to see their reactions to the new area.’
