MODBURY Primary School officially opened a new classroom and outdoor area for the foundation stage class this week.

The ribbon was cut by Jane Greaves, chair of governors, and attended by Penny Amos, business manager, Sue Jezzard, executive head teacher, along with Lucinda Kirkham, foundation teacher, Tess Coulthard, head of school and children from the foundation stage class.

The new classroom was converted from the old kitchen block over the summer holidays. There is also a new decked area with a canopy and lights to make sure children can access the independent learning areas throughout the year, regardless of the weather.

Lucinda Kirkham, foundation teacher, said: ‘The new space has allowed us to have a larger outside area to enable a continuous free flow for the foundation stage children. The new space will enable children to have more space to be independent learners because we understand and value the importance of our children’s learning in an outside environment. The children also take part in a weekly forest school session in our school grounds.’

Lucinda added: ‘It was fabulous to have seen such wonderful support from our parents at the opening of new classroom, where everyone had the opportunity to look round and see the children’s learning since starting the school in September.’
