How selfish and offensive were the comments from Rosemary Mackay, Letters, January 19, regarding people who unfortunately have to collect large quantities of medicines, suggesting they are “leeching the NHS”.
She obviously hasn’t thought this through.
I should imagine anyone collecting large bags of pills etc wishes they weren’t. They have been prescribed by a doctor to help prolong and make their life a little more bearable. These are not goody bags!
These people who are apparently “leeching the NHS” are probably elderly and have spent a lifetime working and paying National Insurance and taxes.
So, how nice for them to get a little in return.
Perhaps she should concentrate on the peopele who are actually leeching the country at every opportunity for everything.
How appalling to suggest the chemist should means test those who unfortunately are not as healthy as her.
As for bus passes, there are many penioners and those not so well off who perhaps otherwise would find it difficult to travel.
I suggest this reader should be a little bit more philanthropic in future.
