MORRISONS in Kingsbridge put on a Communi-tea Party at Redford Meadow on Thursday to raise money for Sue Ryder.

Sally Jarvis, community champion, organised the tea party. She said ’larger stores are doing their tea parties in their cafés, but as we don’t have one, I took it out to the community and Redford were more than happy to oblige’.

Morrisons provided the ingredients for all the cakes and other goodies available on the day, and Sue Massingham, a resident of Redford, did all the baking.

Chrissie Tyrer, scheme coordinator for DCH who own the sheltered housing community, said she ’took the proposal of hosting the event to the residents’ and they agreed.

The tea party was held to raise money for Sue Ryder, a charity that provides ’hospice and neurological care for people facing a frightening, life-changing diagnosis’.

On the website it states: ’It’s not just expert medical care we provide. It’s the emotional support and practical things we take care of too. We do whatever we can to be a safety net for our patients and their loved ones.’

The event raised £33 with a raffle and donations to the charity. Morrisons raised £2.2million for Sue Ryder in its first year of partnership.
