SALCOMBE councillors are inviting residents and visitors to look at plans for Whitestrand car park on Friday.
People are being invited to ‘look at options for Whitestrand and share their views on how they would like to see the space used’ according to South Hams District Council. SHDC submitted a planning application in May, which was granted conditional approval by their own planning department in August.
A spokesman for SHDC said: ‘Whitestrand car park is a valued community space in the town centre and South Hams District Council has proposed plans for future improvements, these plans are now at a stage for consultation.’
District councillors Judy Pearce and Simon Wright will be at Whitestrand car park for two consultation events during half term and would like to hear your views. The events will be taking place near the Harbour Office, on Friday, October 28, between 1pm and 5pm and Saturday, October 29, between 10am and 2pm.
The proposed designs and plans will be on display and information provided to complete the consultation survey. South Hams District Council officers will also be joining Cllr Pearce and Cllr Wright to discuss options for the space.
Cllr Judy Pearce, ward member for Salcombe and Thurlestone, said: ‘The consultation events on Friday and Saturday are an important step for local residents and visitors to have their say on the deck area and to discuss how Whitestrand could be used by the community.
‘We have an approved planning application for some of the works and at this stage we would like input from the community to take this process a step further. We are inviting residents to help us with this, so please come along to the consultation events, look at the plans, understand the proposals and discuss the options for Whitestrand.’
Cllr Simon Wright, Ward Member for Salcombe and Thurlestone said: ‘Whitestrand car park is very popular in Salcombe and we would like to make the most of how it is used by improving what is on offer.
‘How we do this is still up for discussion, and through the consultation, local residents and visitors will be able to browse plans, tell us their views and find out how to send us their comments through a consultation survey.’
