Bright sunshine heralded the start of the annual poppy appeal and drew members of the public out in force to support the fundraising campaign.
Modbury town crier, David Scott and serving RAF officer Wing Commander Andy Hope launched the town’s appeal by the Royal British Legion on Saturday, October 28.
Military vehicle enthusiast and former Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) soldier, Andy Roberts from Plymouth brought along a historic second world war Land Rover as the centrepiece of the day.
It is 96 years since the first annual poppy appeal in 1921 when the Royal British Legion was founded. Each year an army of volunteers sells the iconic red poppies to raise money to fund its work in the armed forces and so that people can remember men and women killed in conflict.
The poppy appeal will culminate in Remembrance Day services across the South Hams on or around November 11.
