MORRISONS supermarket in Kingsbridge has started donating unsold food to Age Concern each week.
Following years of discarding unsold food into landfill, the national supermarket chain has now made the decision to distribute unsold food within local communities.
Sally Jarvis, community champion at Morrisons in Kingsbridge explained: ‘Age Concern is a local charity and local people will benefit. We thought, let’s try and give something back to the community.
‘We chose Age Concern because of the good they do for the elderly. They do such a sterling job and have so many people who rely on them for a hot meal.
‘We sent them all a box of chocolates for Christmas!’
Jenny Cornwell, the cook at Age Concern said: ‘Everything that comes over gets used one way or another. Ideally I use it in the cooking, but if not, it all gets put out on a table for people to help themselves to and take home.
‘I think there’s one packet of crisps left this week!’
