Salcombe Estuary Rowing Club went to the Looe Gig Regatta on Saturday, which is always popular destination due to a lovely sandy beach and a traditional atmosphere.
A large number of ladies, four men and one junior entered as many races as possible and a lack of men did not deter the club from entering a mixed crew for the men’s B race, coming middle of the pack.
The club achieved excellent results with the ladies’ super vets coming first, ladies’ vets third, ladies’ A second, ladies’ B third and ladies’ C third.
The club’s junior joined another crew and was first over the line in a crew that she had never rowed with before.
This was the first summer regatta following a very successful world championships in the Scillies and the great club atmosphere together with some very competitive racing and good results bodes well for the rest of the season.
Salcombe are holding their Regatta on Sunday, June 10, and will be hosting 16 clubs from around the south west to another day of good racing.
All welcome to come and watch this colourful display of gig rowing.
