SALTSTONE Caring are organising a sponsored walk between Buckfastleigh and Yelverton, across Dartmoor on Saturday, July 2.

The sponsored walk, named ‘Follow the Sun’, covers a distance of 20 miles, but organisers emphasise that it is ‘a tough 20 miles.’

Lisa Butcher from Saltstone Caring said: ‘You should expect to cross fords, cross rivers via stepping stones, and partake in a fair amount of ‘tussock-hopping’. Due to the terrain, the going will be slow at times.

‘You should therefore expect to be out on the moor for at least nine to ten hours for brisk walkers, and up to 12 hours for the walker of a more average pace.’

Lisa continued: ‘This is a fabulous route, and we do not want to deter strong walkers from taking part. However, all participants need to be experienced walkers with a high degree of fitness and stamina.

‘There will be a ‘quit’ point en-route, five miles from the start, in case anyone is having problems.’
