A LOCAL fishmonger has received another mysterious gift, this time a bronze statue of a skipper with the message: ‘Here is a skipper to go with your trawler.’
In August, the Gazette reported that Emma Carter, manager of Catch of the Day in Fore Street, Kingsbridge had received a model of a fishing trawler, painstakingly handmade out of hundreds of matchsticks. The trawler rests on a plinth painted to look like the sea and is personalised with the name ‘Emma C.’
However, the identity of the mysterious craftsmen eludes Emma. Emma was previously the skipper of a trawler, so whoever has sent these gifts is obviously aware of this.
After Emma telephoned the Post Office in the summer, she discovered that the model trawler had been posted from Ivybridge. She asked friends, family and customers, but nobody knew who had sent it. The bronze skipper was posted from Seaton, adding a further level of intrigue to the mystery.
Emma told the Gazette this week: ‘It’s very strange, we have no clues as to who sent it. We’d love to know who it was so we can say thank you for our lovely gift. We’ve displayed the trawler in our shop window, and lots of our customers have commented on it. We’re very grateful and would just like to know who it is, so we can say thank you.’
